One-Minute Practice: Length, Width, Depth

Sense your feet on the floor, softening and releasing into the earth. Allow your ankles, knees and hips a gentle mobility. Bring awareness to your head/neck balance and invite a delicate balance of your skull, with the crown of your head floating upwards. Send an imaginary beam of light out the top of your head to the sky. Notice the length of your spine, from tail to head.  Invite awareness of length and verticality.

Allow your thoughts to slow down as you connect with your sensations. Allow full and easy breathing, sensing the movement of your breath supporting your torso and opening up into your full width. Let your arms float up and send some imaginary light out your fingers into your room, or beyond your room. If you like, invite an open-heartedness to help you widen from your center.

Notice your depth, from front to back. The volume of your torso, the volume of your head. Allow this three-dimensionality to open up your awareness further. Notice the space behind you, to the sides as well as space in front of you.

Come back to awareness of standing on your feet. Let yourself bounce gently, with easy ankle, knee, hip joints. How much less effort is needed to balance upright? Try taking off any extra tension or effort in your legs and release into a walk.

Again, notice the environment you are in, especially the space above and behind you. Move in whatever way feels enjoyable and easy to you. Can you let this 3D feeling join you in your next activity?
